History of Simhachalam temple in Visakhapatnam
The history of Simhachalam is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology. According to legend, this temple is associated with the story of Bhakta Prahlada and Lord Narasimha. Hiranyakashipu, a powerful demon king, persecuted his own son, Prahlada, for being a devout devotee of Lord Vishnu. To protect Prahlada and uphold righteousness, Lord Vishnu appeared in his fierce Narasimha (half-lion, half-man) avatar and killed Hiranyakashipu.
After the slaying of the demon, Prahlada is believed to have installed the idol of Lord Narasimha at Simhachalam, and since then, it has been a sacred place of worship.
